Zion Church Ministries understands that the purpose and activity of the Church of Jesus Christ is the work of evangelism. We are guided by the commandment of Jesus in Matthew 28:19-20, which states: “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
Our focus is on Christian education that leads to soul-saving and soul-winning victories. We believe that Christ is coming back and He expects to return for a Church that has done His Will and His Work of Kingdom-building here on earth, so that the Kingdom of Heaven will be bursting out all over with won souls for Christ.
Therefore, our ministries are guided by our Mission. Our preaching and teaching are guided by our Mission. Our outreach is guided by our Mission. Our goal is to reach inside and outside of the walls of Zion Church Ministries, through education, technology, innovation, creativity, immersion, and inclusion, so that the work of evangelism permeates the lives of our fellowship, families and communities.
At Zion we:
We are committed to "making disciples" for the Lord, Jesus Christ, and our emphasis and focus is for all to SEE JESUS! If you are looking for a church where you can study God's Word and learn more about His Will for your life...come visit us and SEE JESUS!

At Zion we:
- Engage ourselves in the welfare of the community by active and proactive involvement in social and cultural issues.
- Reach out to the community-at-large through a variety of programs, activities, events, and services.
- Provide the disciples of Christ the opportunity to participate in continued Biblical education through the Covenant Christian Bible Institute.
- Minister to the needs of the unsaved through Evangelism Teams and evangelistic services.
- Believe that there is power in prayer and exercise that power in Prayer Services and prayer teams.
- Teach the Word of God in Church School and in Bible Study, Workshops, and Seminars.
- Preach the Word of God, based upon sound doctrine, Biblical Scripture, and the power of the Holy Spirit.
- Believe in the gifts of the Holy Spirit and seek the manifestation of those gifts in order for the Body of Christ to be equipped for the work of evangelism and discipleship.

In 1895, several Everett citizens met regularly at the homes of Mrs. Douglas and Mrs. Thomas, where they held church services. Eventually, they obtained an old barn on Robin Street where they continued to meet for about six months. Later, they purchased land and built a church on the corner of Bow and Washburn Streets. The date was September 1895. Although the church building was not yet finished, the members continued to hold services there, under Rev. John Turner. In the same year, 1895, the cornerstone was dedicated with the assistance of the Prince Hall Masons. A few years later, the Church moved from Robin Street to Chelsea Street and on October 18, 1899, was incorporated under the general laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The church underwent a change of name from Immanuel Baptist to Zion Baptist Church, under the pastorate of Rev. J.W. Hill, who was proceeded by Rev. Cunningham and Rev. Pendleton. From 1916 to 1925, Rev. Washington served Zion, and in 1926, Rev. Virgis Hill came to Zion and was elected pastor in 1927. The church committee negotiated to sell the property on Chelsea Street and purchased property on Cottage Street. On Sunday, August 4, 1929, Zion was officially assembled for services on Cottage Street. Rev. Virgis Hill was installed as pastor in September, 1929, and remained nineteen years. Following Rev. Virgis Hill, the pastors have been: Rev. Grady Davis, Rev. Jack Clark, Rev. Phillip Lenued, Rev. H. Benton Harris, Rev. J. L. Browder, Rev. Albert R. Sampson, Rev. Frederick Cowan, and our present pastor, Bishop Robert G. Brown.
Bishop Robert G. Brown was installed as pastor in 1981. He came to Zion with his wife, Marcia, and three children: Dominique, Daniel and Giselle. During Bishop Brown’s tenure, the outreach and ministry work of the church has thrived and grown. Zion has provided transportation through a van ministry; fed the hungry through a food pantry and involvement in the SHARE program; sent volunteers to work at the Soup Kitchen and Homeless Shelters in the Lynn and Boston vicinities; provided community service through our involvement in social justice and social action concerns (such as discrimination issues and school/education concerns, relief for disaster victims of hurricanes and floods, and more); had a computer lab built to support a Teen Training program for Educational Savings which became incorporated into the Everett High School system; hosted an annual Community-in-Unity Block party; hosted and sponsored the City of Everett’s Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship Breakfast; hosted the annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner; provided ESL classes; and more.
In September of 1996, Bishop Brown led the Church to relocate. A property was identified and in October of 1998, Zion signed papers to begin the purchasing process. Construction at the new site began in the spring of 1999. On September 12, 1999, Zion Baptist Church relocated to 757 Broadway. Since moving into the new building, the church’s outreach ministry has expanded to include DVD and CD productions of church services, cable network programming, radio and television broadcast ministry, an online Christian Bookstore, and websites for the church, the Covenant Christian Church Alliance, Inc., an association formed by Bishop Brown, and Bishop Brown’s personal enterprise, RGB Ministries and RGB World Enterprises, LLC.
On February 24, 2002, Bishop Brown planted a second church in the Metrowest area, in Framingham, MA... Zion Metrowest Church. Services were held in an historic building, Nobscot Church, but after several years there, the owners notified us that the building would no longer be available. In 2009, Zion Metrowest was forced to locate a new facility in the Metrowest area, with no success, and it was decided to discontinue that branch of Zion Church Ministries.
Bishop Brown has pastored Zion Church Ministries longer than any other pastor in the church’s history. He holds degrees from Wentworth Institute, Boston University and Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. During his pastorate, Bishop Brown has been actively engaged in leadership roles on local, state, and national levels. He is the organizer and Presiding Prelate of the Covenant Christian Church Alliance, Inc., Chaplain of the Everett Police Department; member of the Everett Cable Board of Directors; member of the Eagle Bank Corporation Board; President of Covenant Christian Bible Institute; Founder and CEO of RGB Ministries, LLC and RGB World Enterprise, LLC; two-time former President of the Baptist Ministers Conference of Boston & Vicinity; two-time former President of United Baptist Convention of MA, RI & NH; former President of the National Baptist Congress of Christian Education of the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc., and member of the Black Ministerial Alliance. In addition, he has been the recipient of numerous awards, distinctions and recognitions.
In 2005, Zion Baptist Church became Zion Church Ministries, in an effort to reach out beyond denominational constraints to the “lost and dying.” The change in name and in vision has been a blessing to the work of this Church. Bishop Brown has guided us to rethink our purpose, our mission, and our nature. As a result, we are multicultural with growing Haitian, Island, and Spanish-speaking populations forming the Body of Christ. Our focus is CHRIST ALIVE AND CHRIST FIRST which guides the education and training for our spiritual growth and effective ministry. With God’s Hand upon us, and our pastor, Bishop Brown, to guide us, we expect to continue to build a legacy that illustrates “faith in action.” Zion Church Ministries...Living a Legacy of Service!”
